Nails

Nails
  1. Common nails – common nails are thicker than box and sinker nails and are stronger and stiffer. Common nails have larger nail shank diameters than other nails.

  2. Box nails – box nail is similar to a common nail but has a slimmer shank.

  3. Lost head nail – this nail is ideal if it is necessary to hide the head of the nail as a punch can be used to hammer the head beneath the surface level.

  4. Spiral shank nail – a spiral “thread” on the shank causes the nail to spin during installation, creating a thread-like interlock with the wood, which increases withdrawal capacity.

  5. Ring shank nail – ring shank nails offer superior holding power over smooth shank nails because the wood fills in the crevasse of the rings and also provide friction to help prevent the nail from backing out over time.

Application

  1. Common nails – fastener nail used for wood structural panel shear walls.

  2. Box nails – fastener nail used on lighter pieces of wood and on boxes.

  3. Lost head nail – fastener nail used to hide the head beneath the surface level.

  4. Spiral shank nail – fastener nails designed to drive easier into harder woods and dense materials while still providing increased withdrawal resistance.

  5. Ring shank nail – fastener nail used in softer types of wood where splitting is not an issue.

Packing

Nails are packed in small carton boxes and then contained in bigger carton box piled and wrapped with stretch film and secured on a wooden pallet as shown in Figure 3. All small and big carton boxes are all marked with the corresponding nail size.
